Meet Doctor of Physical Therapy, Jason Adour. Jason began his physical therapy education at Northeastern University in Boston, MA. His schooling culminated at the Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professions, where he completed his doctoral work in physical therapy. Jason worked in the greater Boston area before moving to Maine with his wife, Emily, in 2014. Jason and Emily welcomed their first daughter, Ava, in 2015 and their second daughter, Pearl, in July, 2017. His professional experience has included geriatric medicine, sports medicine and neurological rehabilitation after strokes or brain injuries, which have all included a focus on balance. After providing therapy in Maine for the past few years, Jason realized the need for an outpatient physical therapy clinic specializing in treating balance and has enjoyed bringing his expertise to our community.

Meet Katie Heller, Doctor of Physical Therapy. Katie joined the Balance Center team in August 2019. Katie completed her undergraduate education at the University of Delaware where she earned a Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science. She completed her education at Regis University in Denver, Colorado where she earned a Doctorate of Physical Therapy and contributed to research publications studying spinal cord injury. Through her previous physical therapy experience, she has served orthopedic, geriatric, pediatric, and neurologic clinical populations. Katie strives to be a partner in helping each patient meet their individual goals while caring for the whole person. Outside of the clinic, you can find Katie skiing, hiking, surfing, and hanging anywhere outside with her partner, Josh, and her mastiff-mix, Callie.

Meet Doctor of Physical Therapy, Anne Vance. Anne graduated from the Ohio State University in 2012 where she received her Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science Education. Anne then continued her journey to Boston University where she earned her doctorate in physical therapy. Anne moved to Maine with her husband, Jay, in 2016 and began her career in inpatient acute rehabilitation. During this time she was an active team member in the stroke and brain injury programs. Through this she enhanced her expertise in treatment of balance, vestibular dysfunction, walking dysfunction, AFO prescription, wheelchair prescription, and spasticity management. Anne then continued her career in the home care setting where she gained continued experience with chronic neurological disorders such as MS and Parkinson disease, as well as geriatric medicine. Anne began working at MSBC in 2020 and became a Board-Certified Neurological Clinical Specialist in 2021. Today Anne serves as the Director of Clinical Excellence and Clinical Lead of Neurologic Services at MSBC. Anne has a strong passion for helping anyone experiencing dizziness, imbalance, or neurological changes. When not in the office you can find Anne with her husband, son Emmett, and two pups, Milo and Rumney, hiking, cross-country skiing, biking, running, swimming, or anything that gets her out in nature!

BETHANY ALTHAUS, PT, DPT

Meet Bethany Althaus, Doctor of Physical Therapy.  Bethany completed her undergraduate and graduate education at Nazareth College in Rochester, NY. She earned a Bachelor’s in Health and Human Services with minors in psychology and gerontology and a Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree. Bethany started her career working in inpatient rehabilitation at Braintree Rehab Hospital in Boston, MA where she gained valuable experience working on the spinal cord injury and wound care teams. During her time at Braintree rehab she had the opportunity to work with a variety of patient populations including complex orthopedics, neurological, and cardiac. She has special training in amputee rehabilitation as well as wound care. In 2018 she moved to Maine with her husband, David, and started working in several skilled nursing facilities as well as a home and community program emphasizing functional training for traumatic brain injured patients to return to independence. Outside of the office you can usually find her on the top of a mountain or paddle boarding with her dog, Maya. She is passionate about making meaningful connections with people and helping them achieve their personal goals!

Meet Kerry King, Doctor of Physical Therapy. Kerry completed her undergraduate degree at West Chester University of Pennsylvania in Exercise Science with a minor in Biology. She went on to complete her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree at Neumann University. While working on her graduate degree, she worked in Magee Rehabilitations Locomotor Training Clinic. Kerry moved to Maine in 2020 from Philadelphia and enjoys having access to the mountains, as well as the ocean in Maine! Kerry is excited to a part of the Maine Strong Balance Center team learning from her peers and patients every day.

Meet Michael Cyr, Doctor of Physical Therapy. Mike completed his undergraduate degree at Trinity College in Hartford Connecticut, earning a Bachelors of Science in Neuroscience. He completed his graduate education at the University of New England in Portland Maine. Mike is a Scarborough native and began his career in Maine working with patients with acquired brain injury in the outpatient and group home settings. He is a certified myofascial trigger point therapist (CMTPT) and enjoys serving a variety of populations including neurologic, orthopedic, chronic pain and TMJ disorders. Mike is also passionate about teaching, mentoring and facilitating service learning opportunities for students. He works with the University of New England on clinical education initiatives and volunteers with the Partners for World Health in their efforts to collect recycled medical equipment for under-resourced communities around the world. On the weekends, you can find Mike guiding white water rafting trips, hiking, skiing, hunting, and enjoying the outdoors.

KRISTINA JAMO, PT, DPT

Meet Kristina Jamo, Doctor of Physical Therapy. Kristina completed her undergraduate degree in Kinesiology with a concentration in Exercise Science at the University of Maine Orono. Following, Kristina received her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of New England. Kristina is a Maine local originally, however spent the first few years of her career as a traveling physical therapist working in various outpatient practices and hospitals in the Northeast. Following her experience as a traveler she worked for two years at a small community hospital in western Connecticut, working with pediatric, neurologic, geriatric, and orthopedic populations. In addition to her experience as a physical therapist, Kristina is also a yoga instructor, certified radiant child yoga instructor, meditation teacher and reiki practitioner. Kristina loves witnessing the healing transformation in others, and witnessing others take control of their personal healing journeys. In her free time you will catch her spending time with her family, writing, biking, hiking, or playing with her sweet pup, Theo!

Meet Doctor of Physical Therapy, Erin Frances Lovell. Erin graduated from American International College in Springfield Massachusetts in 2013 with her Bachelor of Science and then her Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2015. Following school, Erin moved back to her home state of Maine where she began her career in inpatient acute rehabilitation. Over the next 6 years, Erin developed her knowledge base and skills working primarily with patients with neurological diagnoses. She developed a passion working with the neurological population, specifically helping post-stroke patients return home. Erin became certified in neuro-developmental treatment in 2017. In 2020, she became the Stroke Program Leader at New England Rehabilitation Hospital of Portland and received Clinician of the Year. Erin wanted to expand her expertise as a neurological therapist, transitioning to the outpatient setting and beginning her new career adventure with the Maine Strong Balance Center. When Erin is not in the office, you can find her participating in social events with her husband or off enjoying all that Maine has to offer including hiking, fishing, wakeboarding, snowboarding, snowmobiling and building outdoor fires surrounded by family and friends.

NOREEN DELOREY, PT

Meet Noreen Delorey, Physical Therapist. Noreen completed her Physical Therapy degree at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia where she completed her research in the area of Parkinson’s disease. She has extensive experience serving neurologic, orthopedic, geriatric and pediatric clinical populations. Her neurological experience began working at a rehabilitation center focusing on stroke, amputee and spinal cord injuries. She has extensive acute care, home health and outpatient experience working with patients with multiple sclerosis, stroke and Parkinson’s disease. She has volunteer experience with Maine adaptive sports, and development of summer camp programming for children with disabilities. She has taken numerous post graduate courses focusing on neurological treatment approaches. Noreen is very excited to be a member of the Balance Center team helping all of her patients achieve their maximum potential! Noreen lives in Yarmouth with her husband and two children.

RUTH PELLETIER, PTA

Physical Therapy Assistant

Meet Ruth Pelletier, Physical Therapist Assistant. Ruth graduated from Kennebec Valley Community College with her Associates in Applied Science in Physical Therapist Assisting in May 2020. Ruth started her career in inpatient skilled nursing rehab and is excited to bring her geriatric experience to Maine Strong Balance Center. Ruth enjoys working with people from all backgrounds and all ages but especially enjoys helping older adults regain strength and mobility. Ruth is a born and raised Mainer who lives in Westbrook with her husband and two cats. In her free time Ruth enjoys spending as much time as she possibly can outside and her favorite activities include running, hiking, and exploring new places.

Meet Mikaela McGuire, Doctor of Physical Therapy. Mikaela completed her undergraduate education at Sacred Heart University where she earned her Bachelor's Degree in Health Science. She received a Doctorate of Physical Therapy and contributed to research publications studying motor learning at the University of New England. Following completion of her graduate career Mikaela moved to Florida to specialize in neurological conditions at a VA Hospital. After completion of her specialty program she worked at a cancer center prior to returning back to Maine. Mikaela has a passion for both neurologic and oncologic care. She is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association and was a Co-Director of Mentorship for their New Students and Professionals Oncology Special Interest Group. Mikaela is excited to be a member of the Maine Strong Balance Center Team and to help people along their healing journey. When not in the clinic you can find her exploring nature, cooking up a new recipe or doing any activity that involves the ocean!

KELSEY DUMOND, PT, DPT

Meet Kelsey Dumond, Doctor of Physical Therapy. Kelsey completed her undergraduate education at Saint Joseph's College of Maine where she earned a Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science. She completed her education at the University of New England where she earned a Doctorate of Physical Therapy. She began her PT career working in inpatient acute rehabilitation, where she enjoyed serving patients of the orthopedic, oncologic, neurologic, and cardiovascular populations. She became certified in care for patients with dementia, and is passionate about helping those with age-related cognitive impairments continue to enjoy the activities they love. She also has a special interest in oncology and how cancer and cancer treatment affects balance and function. Outside of the clinic, she enjoys hiking, running, and exploring the outdoors of Maine. Kelsey is very excited to be a member of the Balance Center team!

DEB CAVANAUGH, PT, DPT

Meet Deb Cavanaugh PT, DPT. Deb received her undergraduate degree from Wake Forest University with a MA in Biology and completed her Masters in Physical Therapy from Duke University in 1987. She completed the transitional Doctor of Physical Therapy at Shenandoah University in 2013. She has 30 + years of experience in adult rehabilitation (both neurological and orthopedic) in a variety of settings, including outpatient orthopedics, outpatient rehabilitation, skilled nursing, and home health. She is certified in LSVT, evidence based therapy for people with Parkinson’s Disease and she has completed the Revital Oncology Therapist Certification. She is happiest when she is active and outdoors playing tennis, pickleball, biking, running, or swimming. Because being active is so important to her, she is committed to helping others stay active and healthy. She is also an enthusiastic gardener and is a Master Gardener Volunteer through the Maine Cooperative Extension. She volunteers with the Tax-Aide program sponsored by AARP during tax season. She has enjoyed serving as an adjunct faculty member in the UNE Physical Therapy Graduate Program since 2009.

Meet Matthew Anderson, Doctor of Physical Therapy. A Texas native, Matthew moved to Maine to complete his doctorate degree in physical therapy at the University of New England. While in physical therapy school Matthew completed his final clinical internship at the Balance Center in Saco and was thrilled to return after he graduated in May of 2022. Matthew has a passion for serving patients diagnosed with neurologic conditions and those dealing with chronic pain. On the weekend, Matthew enjoys hiking, rock climbing, and playing tennis.

Meet Marty Williams, Doctor of Physical Therapy. Marty completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Scranton, PA in Exercise Science. He completed his graduate education at the University of
New England, Portland ME. Marty spent the first several years of his career in outpatient clinics in Southern Maine. During this time, he worked with orthopedic, geriatric, and vestibular populations. Marty also earned a certification in dry needling and vestibular rehab (VRS). As a new member of the Maine Strong Balance team Marty is excited to utilize his manual skills and experience with a variety of diagnoses to improve the quality of life for all his patients. When Marty isn’t in the clinic, you’ll find him hiking, at the gym, playing with his cat, or working his way through all the restaurants in Portland, ME.

DYLAN KLIEBER, PT, DPT,

Meet Dylan Klieber, Doctor of Physical Therapy.  Dylan graduated from Adelphi University in Garden City, New York in 2012 with a Bachelors in Psychology.  Dylan completed his education at Stony Brook University in Stony Brook, New York where he earned his Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2015.  Dylan began his career working briefly in sports ortho, after which he spent the following 2 years working as a travel physical therapist throughout New England. Dylan found his way South and worked for 2 years in Austin, Texas, working inpatient rehab with a focus on amputee and prosthetic management, stroke, and traumatic brain injury rehab. During this time Dylan became a Certified Brain Injury Specialist and an APTA Certified Clinical Instructor. Yearning to be closer to home, Dylan moved back to Maine in 2019 and settled in Scarborough, where he worked at New England Rehabilitation Hospital of Portland until 2022 and served as a member of the brain injury team and received employee of the quarter in 2021. Dylan is an avid soccer and music fan, and enjoys spending his time outside of the office hiking or walking Higgins and Pine Point beach with his wife, daughter, and husky Pippa.

Meet Casey Poirier, Doctor of Physical Therapy. Originally from New Hampshire, Casey attended the University of New Hampshire for her undergraduate degree in Biology before moving to Portland in 2019 to obtain her professional degree. During her Doctor of Physical Therapy Program at UNE, she spent her final clinical rotation at Maine Strong Balance Center, where her love for neuro and balance-based PT blossomed. She is very excited for the opportunity to return to MSBC after graduating and passing the board exam during the summer of 2022. Casey looks forward to helping her patients gain confidence and meet their goals, no matter how big or small. In her free time, Casey enjoys being with friends and family, camping, trail running, snowboarding, and running her small business, for which she creates handmade resin jewelry and home goods using plants she finds on her outdoor adventures!

Meet Emma Schaefer, Doctor of Physical Therapy. Emma completed her undergraduate and graduate degrees at Ithaca College in Ithaca, NY. She earned her bachelors in Clinical Health Studies with a minor in Aging Studies and her Doctorate of Physical Therapy. Emma started her career here at Maine Strong Balance Center where she is growing in her clinical expertise and passion for neurologic rehabilitation. She has experience working in multiple settings including orthopedics and acute care. She is passionate about universal trauma- informed care and making her patients feel empowered with every treatment. Emma is also a Registered Yoga Teacher with a 200 hour certification. Outside of the clinic, you can usually find her hiking, kayaking, doing yoga, or spending time with family and friends.

Meet Jim. Dr. Cavanaugh is a Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy at the University of New England in Portland. He received a BA in Psychology from the University of Notre Dame in 1985 and completed his physical therapy training with a MS degree from Duke University in 1987. In 2004, he earned a PhD in Human Movement Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where his doctoral work focused on detecting subtle changes in postural control among collegiate athletes with cerebral concussion. From 1996-2016, he was a Board-Certified Clinical Specialist in Neurologic Physical Therapy. His research and teaching at UNE focus on developing interventions for improving sustainable physical activity in individuals with balance and mobility problems. His most recent work in this area focuses on individuals with Parkinson disease.

EMILY ADOUR

Office Manager

Meet Emily Adour, behind-the-scenes coordinator extraordinaire. After a 9-year career as a middle-school teacher, Emily moved on to a different type of teaching job, raising daughters, Ava and Pearl. An experienced yoga and spin instructor, Emily has a deep knowledge of the mind and body and brings positive energy and warmth to the Balance Center. After being his partner in so much else, she is excited to be Jason's partner in running their practice.

MARGARET RUSSELL

Office Administrator

Meet Meg Russell, our receptionist and administrative manager. Meg has been with the Balance Centers since our humble beginnings and has been at the heart of what makes our clinics so special.  Meg comes to us with a background in the medical field where she worked as a Surgical Technologist as well as a Surgical Scheduler.  Meg is also a level 1 Reiki practitioner and has a strong belief in the body’s natural healing energy.  She enjoys working with people, spending time with her family, and helping all who visit have a positive experience here at the Maine Strong Balance Centers.

LAUREN FOGG

Meet Lauren Fogg, our amazing Office Administrator. Lauren first joined our team after returning home from having spent two very rewarding years coaching all-star Cheerleading in Sydney, Australia. Coaching satisfied her passion for helping others and she is so grateful for the opportunities that she had in the land down under! She graduated from the University of Maine in December of 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology and Physical Education. The aspect of Lauren’s job that she loves most is being part of a hardworking team. She is excited to make sure that each of you thoroughly enjoy your experience here at the Balance Center!

EMILY RICKERT

Receptionist Extraordinaire

Meet Emily! Emily joined us in January 2022 after working in retail, law, and insurance. She graduated cum laude from the University of New England in 2019, with a bachelor’s of arts in sociology and minor in political science. Emily’s favorite part of her job is forming relationships with patients and catching up with them each time they come in for an appointment. Outside of work, Emily is an avid equestrian, training and competing in dressage with her horse, Otto. Emily also enjoys going for walks with her boyfriend and dog, Ribeye; eating sweets; and making her colleagues laugh.

TAMMY SCOTT

Meet Tammy! Tammy joins the Balance Center with over 30 years experience in the healthcare industry with a main focus on billing and collections. She has earned 2 associate degrees, in Accounting as well as a Medical Assistant. Tammy has recently worked in physical therapy setting utilizing WebPT. She enjoys helping patients navigate insurance, educating on their plans as well as how they work. Tammy is a fun and fabulous presence at the Balance Centers!

Meet Elise! Elise brings her amazing customer service talents to the Balance Center team as a former restaurant manager in Boston. She returned home to Maine to be closer to family in 2010 with her husband, Mike, and her daughter, Ella. Elise's family lives in Windham with their dog and 2 cats. When she's not at the Balance Center, Elise loves enjoying good food, live music, camp fires, and the beach!

KATHLEEN MORLOCK

Meet Kathleen Morlock, our Physical Therapy Aide and Receptionist Extraordinaire. Kathleen became a part of our team as a college student at the University of Rhode Island. She finalized her undergraduate career here at the Balance Center by completing a 400 hour internship under our wing. After receiving her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology in December of 2018, Kathleen transitioned to more permanent position on our staff and thoroughly enjoys contributing to such a positive, collaborative environment: clinically, clerically, and creatively. You may find her teaching one of our balance exercise classes, speaking to the community about relevant medical literature, or lending a helping hand here at the clinic.
